Teach Her: Building a Legacy of Empowerment

Legacy isn’t just what we leave behind; it’s the doors we open and the paths we create for others to walk through. Teach Her is my homage to paying it forward—an artwork born from a deep belief in the power of investing in present and future generations. It embodies my love for technology, color, and art, but most importantly, it reflects a commitment to mentorship and community.

Through this piece, I honor the shoulders I stand on and extend my hand to those who come after me, ensuring they too have the tools, courage, and vision to shape their futures.

The Importance of Investing in Ourselves and Others

The Importance of Investing in Ourselves and Others

Communities thrive when they invest in themselves—time, energy, knowledge, mentorship, and resources. Without this investment, we risk relying on systems or individuals who may not have our best interests at heart. This dependence leads to false promises and unrealized dreams, leaving generations disconnected from their true potential.

For me, this understanding comes from personal experience. I stand on the shoulders of many—my parents, daughters, siblings, mentors, and community—who have lifted me up and propelled me forward. Their support, combined with my own journey of healing and self-discovery, has allowed me to stand confidently in my own power. It’s this collective effort that Teach Her represents: the promise to uplift others as I have been uplifted.

The Symbolism of Teach Her

The Symbolism of Teach Her

In Teach Her, every element is intentional, designed to reflect the tools, wisdom, and vision needed to forge new paths.

  • Surgical Loupes: Worn proudly, the loupes symbolize clarity and precision, a nod to my background in medicine. They represent the ability to see the world as it is and to dissect truths that others might overlook.
  • Code and Technology: Embedded within the design are threads of code, symbolizing the boundless possibilities of technology and innovation. For me, they represent the future—one where girls and young people of color can lead in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) fields, breaking barriers and redefining what’s possible.
  • Bold, Futuristic Colors: The vibrant palette reflects hope, progress, and evolution. It’s a celebration of creativity and courage, qualities that are essential for building a better future.

Through these elements, Teach Her tells the story of equipping the next generation with the tools they need to thrive—whether that’s in science, art, technology, or leadership.

Paying It Forward: A Personal Commitment

My journey has been shaped by mentors, programs, and opportunities that opened doors for me. As a young girl, programs in education and science showed me the power of possibility. It’s why I’ve made philanthropy a core part of Ceyise Studios—focusing on STEAM education and mental health advocacy for those navigating challenges like C-PTSD and Alexithymia.

This commitment isn’t just about giving back; it’s about creating a ripple effect. When we invest in young people, we give them the tools to invest in others. It’s a cycle of empowerment that multiplies over time, strengthening individuals, families, and communities.

What Legacy Will You Leave?

Teach Her invites us all to reflect on the legacies we’re building.

  • What doors are you opening for others?
  • How are you equipping the next generation to succeed?
  • What steps can you take to ensure your community thrives?

In Teach Her, I see my daughters, my community, and every girl who dares to dream. This piece is a promise to continue the journey of empowerment, investing in the potential of those who come after us.
